ABSTRACT
The study was conducted at the Textile Physical Division, Bangladesh Jute Research Institute, Dhaka, Bangladesh during 2014-2015 to physical properties such as bundle strength, fineness, breaking twist, brightness/luster (%) and whiteness (%) were determined at standard atmospheric condition. Jute is bast fibre renewable plant grown mainly in the subtropical area of Asia. Important properties of jute fibres are its picky luster, high tensile strength, low extensibility and considerable fire resistance. Two types of jute fibre (Tossa and White) of 80 days were collected from Dowlatpur, upazila under Manikgonj district of Bangladesh. Jute fibres of 80 days of both tossa and white were tested to determine different physical and aesthetic properties for the assessment of their suitability in blending. From the results it was found that bundle strength of top portion of tossa jute much lower than that of bottom portion. Middle potion possessed almost average value of top and bottom. On the other hand bundle strength of top portion of white jute was found a little bit lower than that of bottom portion. Here also middle portion possessed almost average value of top and bottom. For both the varieties CV% of middle portion was found lower than that of top and bottom. In case of fineness, for both tossa and white, it was found that middle portion possessed almost the average value of top and bottom. CV% of fineness for tossa jute was found lower for middle portion. Middle portion of both the varieties possessed higher Breaking Twist (BT) values than other portions. In that case, tossa jute fibre possessed higher breaking twist than that of white jute fibre. Luster and color of both the verities showed almost same result. But in case of luster middle portion of white jute appeared to be better than that of middle portion of tossa jute. On the other hand color of top portion of tossa jute found better than that top portion of white jute.
