ABSTRACT

The study was conducted at the Institute of Research and Training on Applied Nutrition (BIRTAN), Ministry of Agriculture, People’s Republic of Bangladesh, Dhaka, Bangladesh. The samples were collection form four regional stations of BIRTAN in the year 1993-1994. The target population of this study was selected from the project areas of Savar, Sirahgonj, Noakhali and Barisal under the four administrative divisions of Bangladesh. Awareness about nutrition can make a lot of difference in the health of the society and country as a whole. It influence public policies and promote access to variety of nutritious foods, increase knowledge of the nutritional value of foods, influence behaviors, attitudes and beliefs, develop personal skills and motivation to adopt healthy eating practices which was reflected in the study. The study revealed that nutrition awareness can change the traditional food habits and misconceptions in a great extent which leads to improved nutritional status of both children and mothers.
