ABSTRACT
The study was conducted at the Laboratory, Department of Zoology, University of Rajshahi, Rajshahi, Bangladesh. A total of 500 specimens of Anabus testudeneusand Channa punctatus were collected from Shaheb Bazar Rajshahi during the month from August to October 2004. Experiments were conducted to determine the effect of salt, urea, formalin, clove oil and folic acid. The fishes were treated with the five different doses of these compounds and mortality (5) and time of death of fishes were noted. Three fishes of each species were treated with each dose of each compound. Each of the experiments was continued up to 72 hours (3 days). The whole experiment was replicated thrice. Determination of the mean and standard deviation of survivability of fishes for each size category. Then compare the mean values of survivability of fishes with their corresponding mean sizes which is known as T-test. The result of t-test was always insignificant for doses of each compound. Formalin and clove oil were found to be toxic for both the species. Folic acid produced no lethal effect. With the time the fishes became less active, in the treatments with salt and urea.
