ABSTRACT
The experiment was conducted at the research field of Youth Training Center, Gaibandha District of Bangladesh during the period from November 2016 to April 2017 to study the influence of planting time and method of nitrogen application on growth and yield of wheat in the research field Youth Training Center, Gaibandha. The experiment was laid out in a two factors Randomized Complete Block Design (RCBD) with three replications. Sowing time was assigned in the main plot and nitrogen application in the sub-plots. There was three sowing times, viz., sowing at 20 November (S1), sowing at 30 November (S2), sowing at 10 December (S3); four nitrogen application methods, viz., 50% urea of RDF soil application + 20% urea of RDF foliar spray application at tillering stage (N1), 60% urea of RDF soil application + 20% urea of RDF foliar spray application at tillering stage (N2), 70% urea of RDF soil application + 20% urea of RDF foliar spray application at tillering stage (N3), 100% urea of RDF soil application (N4).With a few exception, morphological parameters like plant height, number of leaves, number of tillers at different days after sowing, phenological parameters like days to crown root initiation, booting, an thesis and physiological maturity, yield contributing characters and yield showed highest values at early sowing i.e. sowing at 20 November and the values were lowest in sowing at 10 December in both the years. Among the nitrogen application methods, 70 % urea of RDF in soil + 20% urea of RDF in foliar spray application at tillering stage (N3) performed better in morphological, phonological, yield contributing characters and yield than the others nitrogen application methods.
Keywords: Sowing time, Nitrogen application method and Wheat yield.
