ABSTRACT
Conjugated Areneethynylene 2,5-diethynylpyridine (1), 1,4-diethynylbenzene (2), 2,5-dialkyl-p-phenyleneethynylene (3),and p,p-biphenylediethyne (4), were synthesized with moderate to good yield by hydrolysis of organosilyl compound Me3SiC≡CArC≡CSiMe3 (1, Ar= C5H5N; 2, Ar = C6H6, 3, Ar =C6H4(CH3)2 4, Ar = C6H4-C6H4 respectively). Then the bimetallic model compounds PhPt(PnBu3)2-C≡C-Ar-C≡C-Pt(PnBu3)2Ph 5, 6, 7 and 8 were synthesized with moderate to good yield in diethyl amine and dichloromethane in presence of Cu(I)I by the reaction between diterminal Areneethynylene and (PnBu3)2PtPhCl at room temparature. It shows that 2, 5- substituted bimetallic pyridine compound was in low yield. For the conformation of the model compound, 3-D x-ray structure of model compound was analyzed and found that they are rigid rod in structure. The research work was conducted during September 2008 to July 2009 in the Department of Applied Chemistry & Chemical Engineering at Noakhali Science and Technology University, Sonapur, Noakhali, Bangladesh.
Keywords: Conjugated Areneethynylene, Hydrolysis and 3-D x-ray structure.
