ABSTRACT

The experiment was conducted at the Floriculture Field of Horticulture Research Centre, Bangladesh Agricultural Research Institute (BARI), Gazipur, Bangladesh during July 2013 to June 2015.to find out the optimum rhizome size and plant spacing for producing quality of Heliconia (Heliconia angusta).Three sizes of rhizome viz big (15g), medium (10g) and small (5g) and three levels of plant spacing viz. 30 cm, 40 cm and 50cm with a constant row spacing of 50cm were used for this trial using the genotype H-001. The big size rhizome (15g) with the widest plant spacing (50 cm) produced the maximum production of sucker (16/rhizome), longest stalk length (66.35 cm) and increased number of marketable flower stick (21.00) in Heliconia. Small rhizome at the closer spacing exhibited poor performances in respect of sucker and flower production.
