 ABSTRACT

An experiment was conducted at the Bakichara Hill Cotton Research Station, Bangladesh Cotton Development Board, Balaghata upazila under Bandarban district of Bangladesh during May to December in three consecutive year 2000 to 2002 to find out the suitable method for fertilizer application in Jhum crops (Cotton, rice, maize, sorghum and sesame). The performances of five treatments viz. i) seed and fertilizer added in a single pit, ii) seed sowing in a pit but fertilizer added another pit located on the upper portion at 4cm distance, iii) seed + fertilizer broadcasting (Farmers practice), iv) seed+ fertilizer line sowing and v) seed + fertilizer added at 15 DAE in an another pit located on the upper portion at 4cm distance were compared. The highest yield of cotton, rice, maize, sorghum and sesame were obtain from seed sowing in a pit but   fertilizer added another pit located on the upper portion at 4 cm distance that also gave the highest benefit to cost ratio (1.55 for 2002, 1.56 for 2001 and 1.77 for 2000).
