ABSTRACT

The study was conducted at the Department of English, Sylhet International University, Sylhet, Bangladesh from August 2021 to December 2021. The purpose of this study is to analyze Heart of Darkness with an aim to view the reality of the internal factors connected to the real message of the novella. The story of this text is mainly based upon the personal experiences, Conrad underwent during his visit to the African country known as the Congo. It is a simple narrative indeed. But, through this simplicity, a bigger theme, the conflict of the two opposite cultures, that of the white and of the black people, meaning the racism comes out vividly before the eyes of the concerned readers of the text. On the surface of the story, there is nothing difficult to understand, but in the underneath of the text narrative, there is a big impressive motif hidden for the readers of literature. Here, Conrad experiences the simple, everyday life of the Congo people. He also observes the savages of the lifestyle of the native people of the Country, Congo. On the other hand, he realizes the brutality, the economic oppression, and the exploitation of the western, white people upon the innocent people of Congo. An attentive reader can simply apprehend and feel the reality of their Oppression in the novella.
