ABSTRACT
The study has been conducted at the Laboratory of Jute and Textile Product Development Center (JTPDC) wing, Bangladesh Jute Research Institute (BJRI), Manik Mia Avenue, Dhaka 1207, Dhaka, Bangladesh during the year 2019-2020. Jute is the second important fiber crop after cotton and widely produced in Bangladesh. Pigment colour is a very cheap dye which was applied on Jute fabric by using padder machine in pad-dry curing method. Before padding, the fabric was singed well to improve surface luster. After dyeing, the dyeing effects in the samples were compared with each other. It was found that all the results are almost same. The coverage of the dyeing between cotton and jute fibre was very satisfactory. The fastness properties of the dyed fabrics were determined. Their physical properties, whiteness, softness properties and mechanical properties like stiffness were also studied and found very satisfactory. Stiffness, whiteness, softness was found similar in all the samples. The fabrics were dyed without scouring, so it was cost effective and on the other hand pigment colour is a cheaper dye. This pad dry method is usable in all types of cellulosic material like cotton fabrics and its blends.
