ABSTRACT
The experiments were carried out at the Department of Agronomy, Bangladesh Agricultural University, Mymensingh, Bangladesh during January to December 2004 to find out the effect of sowing date and variety on germination and vigour of soybean seed in storage for improving the quality of soybean under climatic conditions of Bangladesh . Sowing date, variety and their interaction had no significant effect on seed germination percentage for any month of testing during the storage period from July to December 2004. Seeds obtained from G-2 sown on 31 January gave the highest post-storage field emergence (84%) while 17 December sowing gave the lowest emergence in variety PB-1 (61.6%). Sowing date had significant effect on vigour index of soybean seed in storage for the month of July to December but not for the other months and also on their field Emergence. The highest vigour index was observed for seeds of G-2 sown on 31 January while the lowest for PB-1 with 2 December sowing.
