ABSTRACT
An experiment was carried out at Agronomy Field Laboratory, Department of Agronomy and Agricultural Extension, University of Rajshahi, Rajshahi, Bangladesh to study the effect of variety and bio-fertilizer alone or in combination in improving growth, yield and yield contributing characters of soybean under the agro climatic condition of Rajshahi during the period from December 2017 to April 2018. The experiment was laid out in split- split plot design with three replications. Three varieties of soybean viz. BINA soybean-2, BINA soybean-3 and BINA soybean-4 and two levels of Rhizobium viz. with and without inoculation were used. Application of bio-fertilizer with inoculation showed higher growth, yield and yield contributing characters with variety BINA soybean-3. The highest plant height(cm), number of branches plant-1, number of pods plant-1, number of seeds pod-1, number of seeds plant-1, pod length (cm), 1000 seed weight (g), seed yield (t ha-1), stover yield (t ha-1), biological yield (t ha-1) and harvest index (%) were obtained from bio- fertilizer inoculation. Whereas, the lower results were found in bio-fertilizer non inoculation or control. On the other side, the highest growth, yield and yield contributing characters were recorded in the variety BINA soybean-3. From the results it may be concluded that BINA soybean-3 with bio-fertilizer inoculation is better for growth and yield of soybean.
