 ABSTRACT

Shopping malls have become an important part of city life and every day these malls are visited by thousands of people, so their quality needs to be assessed. The quest of this study is to evaluate the environmental safety status of the shopping malls and to determine the adequate facilities of the customers. A survey has been conducted through questionnaire to gather the required data. Twelve shopping centres of Shantinagar, Malibagh and Mouchak area were selected. This study exposes the environmental perspectives such as most of the malls experience mild noise levels with very low vibration. Some of the malls have separate toilet facilities for male and female but not hygienic and sufficient and none of these shopping malls have any emergency medicine or medical facility and separate smoking zone. Out of 12 shopping centres, there is no fire extinguisher in some shopping malls and only 60% of them have emergency fire escape, 65% have CCTV installed.
