ABSTRACT
The study was conducted at the Bangladesh Institute of Nuclear Agriculture (BINA) Sub station , Ishurdi upazila under Pabna district of Bangladesh during Kharif II Season 2016 to determine the contribution of main stem and different tiller on grain yield of rice. Six Bangladeshi Aman rice varieties were used in this study. A field experiment was laid out in a Randomized Complete Block Design with four replications. All tillering ability and their yield contributing attributes were observed separately in main stem, primary tiller and secondary tiller and tertiary tiller. The result revealed that maximum number of effective tillers, maximum number of filled grain and also maximum 1000 grain weight collectively contributed to higher grain yield in Binadhan-17 compare to other varieties maintain this order of main stem ˃ Primary tiller ˃ Secondary tiller. Tertiary tiller did not have any contribution to grain yield. It has been well documented that either excessive or insufficient tillering is unfavorable for high yield. Early initiated tiller are maximum effective and they contain maximum filled grain that contribute to increase grain yield.
Keywords: Main stem, Primary tiller, Secondary tiller, Grain yield and Rice variety.
