ABSTRACT
The experiment was conducted at Agronomy Division, Regional Agricultural Research Station (RARS), Bangladesh Agricultural Research Institute (BARI), Burirhat, Rangpur, Bangladesh during 2010-2011 to find out the suitable sowing date and variety for each crop of this cropping pattern and to assess the agro-economic productivity of the potato base cropping pattern with three varieties and four sowing dates of each crop. The varieties and dates treatments were BARI Alu-7, BARI Alu-8 and BARI Alu-13 of verity of both potato and 28 September, 13 October, 28 October and 13 November of first potato and 1 December, 15 December 1 January and 15 January of second potato, BARI Hybrid Maize-3, BARI Hybrid Maize- 5 and BARI Hybrid Maize-7 of Maize variety and 5 January, 20 January, 5 February, 20 February of maize sowing dates, BARI Mung varieties-3, BARI Mung varieties-5 and BARI Mung varieties-6 of Mungbean and 5 April, 20 April, 5 May and 20 May of Mung bean sowing date BRRI dhan- 33, BINA dhan -7 and Sharna local and 28 June, 5 July, 10 July and 23 July of T. Aman rice sowing dates. All managements were done as per BARC recommendation guide 2005. The GM and BCR were increased 13 October and inclusion of variety BARI Alu-13 instead of other tested varieties. The best sowing date and variety of this cropping pattern was recorded 13 October and BARI Alu-13 for first potato crop, 15 December and BARI Alu-13 or 8 for second potato, 20 January and BARI Hybrid Maize-6 for maize crop, 20 April and BARI Mung-6 of mungbean crop and 10 July and BINA dhan-7 of T. Aman rice crop. The soil fertility status was not deteriorated rather a little bit improved after completion of the cropping pattern due to use of Mungbean crop.
