 ABSTRACT

The experiments were conducted at the Laboratory Plant in Housing and Building Research Institute, Dhaka, Bangladesh during 2019-2020. Sand cement hollow blocks were the most widely used construction material in all over the world. This study represents the compressive strength properties of sand cement hollow block with ground granulated blast furnace slag (GGBS) and dredged sand by partial replacement of cement. Increased demand for cement in the field of construction is regarding for environmental degradation. In this regard, the replacement of cement by the used of GGBS and dredged sand was carried out by wasted materials. On optimum levels of GGBS and dredged sand were assessed with varied percentage of cement from (10, 11, 13, 15) %.  A total 100 specimens have been cast for mix ratios and tested according to ASTM standard levels. Water cement ratios were maintained by (0.4-0.8) and two types super plasticizer used on this GGBS hollow block. All specimens were moist cured for 7, 14, 28 days for compressive strength and water absorption testing method. The test results were proved that the compressive strength of concrete mixtures containing GGBS increased by the amount of GGBS increased. The optimum points at 53% of the total binder content to increased the compressive strength 77.0% and lower the water absorption performance 3.6%. The most favorable GGBFS replacement as high elevate compressive strength, low heat of hydration, resistance to chemical attack, better workability, good durability and cost-effectiveness.
