ABSTRACT
A field experiment was carried out in the farm of Sher-e Bangla Agricultural University, Dhaka, Bangladesh during October 2005 to April 2006 to evaluate ten wheat varieties namely Sonalika, Kanchan, Barkat, Shatabdi, Aghrani, Pavon-76, Akbar, Gourab, Sourav and Protiva against leaf blight (Bipolaris sorokiniana). The disease severity of wheat varieties at panicle initiation stage, flowering stage, milk stage and hard dough stage varied significantly and minimum disease severity was recorded in the variety Shatabdi and maximum in the variety Sonalika. The maximum number of grains/ear (38.66), number of healthy grains/ear (37.41) and the highest 1000 seed weight (42.12 g) were recorded in the variety Shatabdi and the lowest number of grains/ear (34.23) and number of healthy grains/ear (32.12) were recorded in the variety of Kanchan. The highest grain yield 3.92 t/ha was recorded in the variety Shatabdi and the lowest yield (1.83 t/ha) was recorded in the variety Aghrani.
