ABSTRACT
The study was conducted at the Crop Physiology Division, Bangladesh Institute of Nuclear Agriculture, Sub-Station farm, Ishurdi, Pabna, Bangladesh during November 2015 to February 2016to study the effect of Orobanche on yield, six high yielding popular mustard varieties (Binasarisha-4, Binasarisha-5, Binasarisha-7, Binasarisha-9, BARI Sarisha-11 and Tori-7). Orobanche an obligate root parasite super sink to mustard plant fully depends on the host plant to complete its life cycle. The samples were collected from Ishurdi, Pabna where natural infestation of Orobanche. None of the varieties was found free from infestation. Significant reduction of plant height, number of branch, number of siliqua per plant, seed per siliqua was recorded in all the variety studied. Seed yield loss ranged from 14.5 to21.9% in mustard varieties due the infection. Maximum yield reduction was observed inBinasarisha-7 and BARI Sarisha-11 while minimum yield loss recorded in Binasarisha-5.
Keywords: Mustard, Seed yield and Orobanche.
