ABSTRACT
A pot experiment was carried out to study the effect of Azospirilium and nitrogen on yield and yield components of rice cv. Binashail during aman sesason. There were nine treatments: control (0% nitrogen), 40% nitrogen, 60% nitrogen, 80% nitrogen, 100% nitrogen, Azopirillium, (Azospirillum + 40% nitrogen), (Azospirillum +60% nitrogen) and (Azospirilium + 80% nitrogen). The treatment (Azospirillum + 80% nitrogen) produced significantly higher value on the plant height (60.71cm), tillers/hill (11.42), panicle/hill (11.5), panicle length (17.38cm), grains/panicle (140.20), 1000-grain weight (22.70g), grain weight/pot (25.30g) and straw weight/pot (38.35g) which was statistically similar with 100% nitrogen treatment. Azsopirillum inoculant with 80% nitrogen was found to perform better result significantly identical with 100% nitrogen treatment. This study indicated the great prospect of using Azospirilium inoculant in rice cultivation in Bangladesh.
